Habitare Pro x Grano

Habitare Pro x Grano

During Habitare Pro, Finland’s B2B design trade fair, Grano have produced two showstopping installations in the form of an interactive workshop structure and a central bar, all made from cardboard. Designed by Boardwalk, an innovative company creating high quality, environmentally responsible furniture, products and installations from folded cardboard with materials provided by Vink.

Workshop

The workshop is constructed using Vink’s honeycomb cardboard. A modular dome shaped structure with the dual function of being able to host talks and presentations with a small audience of up to 20 people and being acoustically suitable.

The outside divisions create enough screening for short, private, networking meetings. The material has integrated fireproofing, making it suitable for indoor events such as this. Within each division is placed an interactive corrugated cardboard table and stools on which visitors are encouraged to scribble on during their meetings. The structure is produced and built by Grano, in Finland and designed by BoardWalk.

Habitare Pro Central Bar

An interactive bar with the shape and feel similar to it’s workshop companion. The bar base echo’s the workshop structure whilst the bar top exposes the raw kraft cardboard to reveal the natural elements which are derived from cardboard. The relief mimics the river ‘Kyrö’ on which the bottles of the alcohol company ‘Kyrö Distillery’ are integrated and displayed. Visitors are encouraged to draw and leave their mark on the bar top, transforming the structure into a ‘work of art’ during the period of the design fair. Exposing the bar top to the elements also conveys how cardboard reacts; when it gets wet or ring marks are left from under a glass, for example. This exposes layers and tells a story of the fair. The central bar is constructed using Vink’s honeycomb cardboard and the structure is produced and built by Grano, in Finland and designed by BoardWalk.
