The Block: Habitare Talents & Habitare Protos

The Block, Habitare’s area for new design, brings together emerging designers, fresh product ideas, and manufacturers. The selected designers and product ideas can be seen at the Habitare from 11 to 15 September 2024.

The application period for the 2024 Habitare Talents and Habitare Protos exhibitions has ended on February 13, 2024.

The exhibitions are curated and produced by IMU Design

IMU Design, namely Elina Aalto and Saara Renvall, will be responsible for curating and producing the Habitare Talents and Habitare Protos exhibitions, previously known as Talentshop and Protoshop. In addition to Aalto and Renvall, the jury for the exhibitions will include the creative lead at Habitare, Päivi Helander, and this year’s non-permanent member of the jury, the designer Rasmus Palmgren, who was featured in the Talentshop exhibition in 2019. The competition secretary will be the Habitare producer Ida Ågren.

“Habitare Talents and Habitare Protos provide insight into the thinking of young designers and the future direction of design. Protoshop, which was launched in 2009, and Talentshop, which has been held since 2015, have offered a whole generation of Finnish designers a channel to showcase their own designs”, say Imu Design’s Elina Aalto and Saara Renvall.

Habitare Talents to highlight emerging names in design

Habitare Talents offers an opportunity for four designers or design teams to showcase their expertise. These emerging designers represent the future of Finnish design in the coming years. The exhibition will feature four designers in the early stages of their careers, each having already established a recognizable designer identity and demonstrated their skills, though they may not be widely known to the general public. The selected designers will have their own separate small stands in The Block area, where they can exhibit several designs.

Habitare Protos to connect product ideas and manufacturers

The Habitare Protos exhibition presents 10-12 new prototypes and product ideas. The exhibition, which reflects new design trends, opens up a view into our future world of objects. Product ideas include new interpretations of classic types of furniture, insightful small products, and solutions for home furnishing challenges.

In the exhibition, young generation designers have the opportunity to test the appeal of their product ideas to potential manufacturers and future buyers. The aim is to discover and present great product ideas and to help young designers and manufacturers connect with each other.
