Pia Rydman is a Helsinki-based visual artist and, above all, a colorist. Her studio is located in Kruununhaka, whose urban surroundings and landmarks are a recurring source of inspiration. Color is at the heart of her work, particularly the way colors interact and create unexpected, nuanced harmonies.Her work ranges from urban cityscapes and landscapes to imaginative still lifes where realism meets fantasy. With a background in graphic design and a degree in interior design, Rydman has a strong understanding of composition, form and visual structure. She also collaborates with interior designers and creates commissioned works for individual spaces and interior projects.Her artwork has been collected in Europe, USA and Middle East.
Pia Rydman is a Helsinki-based visual artist and, above all, a colorist. Her studio is located in Kruununhaka, and the surrounding cityscape and landmarks are recurring subjects in her work. Living and working in the heart of Helsinki, Rydman draws inspiration from the urban environment, its architecture, views, rhythms and changing light. The city is more than her home – it is an essential part of the way she sees and experiences the world.
Color is at the heart of Rydman’s artistic expression. She is particularly interested in the relationships between colors: how they interact, influence one another and change when placed side by side. Her paintings are built around nuanced and sometimes unexpected color harmonies, where color creates atmosphere, space and rhythm as strongly as the subject itself.
Rydman has a long background in graphic design as well as a degree in interior design. This is reflected in her strong sense of composition, form, rhythm and visual structure. She also works closely with interior designers on a variety of projects and understands the demands of incorporating art into an interior design process. She welcomes commissioned work and enjoys using her design expertise in collaboration with interior professionals to create works that become an integral part of a space.
Rydman’s still lifes combine realism and fantasy. Familiar objects become part of imagined worlds, often with something unexpected or intriguing taking place in the background. Her urban paintings, meanwhile, depict places and views that are familiar to her from everyday life, interpreted through her distinctive approach to color and atmosphere.
At Habitare 2026, Rydman presents urban scenes, imaginative still lifes, flowers and vases, alongside abstract works in which color and the relationships between colors take center stage.
Rydman’s works are held in private collections in Finland, USA, Europe and Middle East, and she has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Finland, Europe and Asia. Coming from a family of artists, visual art has been an important part of her life for several decades.
