The 1934 Isokon building in London was not only ground breaking with its modernist architecture, but also for its residents; four Masters of the Bauhaus, five Soviet spies, several best-selling authors including Agatha Christie, artists such as Henry Moore, poets, politicians, scientists, archeologists and architects all came to live together in one place. The Isokon founders had a network of friends that included Alvar Aalto, Ray & Charles Eames, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Frank Lloyd Wright and Ernö Goldfinger. The Isokon Furniture Company, with its production in Estonia, could have been the British equivalent of Artek, had not war stopped its development.
